How to write ranking Resume!
A good job opening can attract anywhere from 500 to 1000 applications. But do you think all 1000 applicants will get interview calls? Unfortunately, no. Not even 100 will receive a call, and if the recruiter is diligent, only about 50-60 applicants will get interview calls, with just 5-10 progressing to the next rounds.
The top resumes are the ones that reach the "human eyes"; the rest receive automatic rejection emails. So, the key to getting into the top 5-10% is all you need to know—everything else is just noise.
Here’s how to achieve that:
Deep Dive into Your Profile: Analyze your experience and the job description (JD) to identify:
Technical Skills/Tools: e.g., Excel, Tally, SQL, PowerBI
Core Skills: Subject matter expertise required for your role
Functional Skills: Soft skills essential for your job
Update Your Resume: Add these skills to your resume and ensure they are repeated throughout your experience section.
Remember: It’s about ranking your resume using Core Skills, Functional Skills, and Technology Stack/Tools.
Finding the Skills:
Step 1: Search for company names and jobs on Google, then add your profile in the search (e.g., "Apple jobs", Data Science).
Step 2: Do this for the top 10-15 companies you aspire to work for and copy-paste the job descriptions into a tool like ChatGPT.
Note: The better the quality of the job description, the better the results.
Step 3: Extract keywords and key skills, then categorize them into:
Technology Stack: e.g., Programming languages (C, C++, R, Python), DBMS
Tools: e.g., Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, QlikView
Core Skills: e.g., Risk Advisory, Risk Management, Internal Audit, Internal Control
Functional Skills: e.g., Change Management, Reporting, Stakeholder Management
Step 4: Incorporate these into your resume and bullet points.
This approach is not a quick hack, and quick hacks don’t work. Follow these steps, and you'll notice a significant change in the number of interview calls you receive.
